The Dots

We first got her when she was just 3 month old. I can still recall the day my mum, brother and I were so anxious to pick a puppy after hearing news from a friend that a 10 year old basset hound had just given birth to 10 puppies! We arrived there, and stood watching gold and black little ones running all over the place. Gold you might ask? The father is a golden retriever which got some of us asking: "Golden and a basset? How did that happen?" It's still a mystery to some of us who knows what I'm talking about. Hence, the puppies were either pure gold or black considering that the mother was a black basset. We were hoping to pick a gold one but unfortunately, they were already taken. Some were even "pre-booked"!

My mum saw this little black one, and we found that she was the only that has a gold patch eyebrow. Considering that she's black in colour, the gold above the eye would help us determine her appearance in the dark. See the red colour collar she's wearing? That's to help her stand out! Her name is Dorothy which means, a "Gift from God" but somehow we often call her Dottie instead. She is a gift from God indeed. Extremely naughty as she always is, she's always the centre of attention in my home. A vet once told us that she's a happy dog well, obviously! She gets bacon and pork ribs once in a while, she has a nanny which happens to be my Kakak who accompanies her during her walks everyday, she has her very own bed and blanket in case she gets cold in the night, she has a master i.e my brother who buys food especially for her all the way from Melbourne. What's not to be happy? With all the good food she's getting, I bet that someday her belly would be dragging against the floor considering how short her legs are.

Out of the four of us, Dottie fears my dad the most. He is the ultimate master in her life, or in other words the ultimate nightmare! My dad doesn't believe in pampering her too much or she might step all over him just like how she does with me and my mum. However, despite the constant yelling and spanking she gets from my dad when she's being awfully naughty, she does get a treat from him once in a while. Only my dad hates to admit it but we obviously know Dottie has a special place in his heart. Somewhere in there. Dottie appears unfriendly for the first time, but really, once you get to know her, she's a sweet loving creature. She has proven that to some of my friends, but to the other half, she's still this horrible little thing. I suppose she can be quite vicious. But you know the saying: "Don't judge a book by it's cover"? It applies to dogs too! She'll be 7 this year. I wonder what she'll be getting this time!

At least it's a red carpet or you won't be able to spot the Dots!
